Digital transformation _{^{in the public sector post Covid}}

Already, the public sector lags behind other verticals and there's the risk of that gap widening, as others build on their digital advances from remote working. Within the research, we see relatively low levels of adoption of different technologies that improve back-office systems, or enable collaboration, but there are high levels of exploration.

Most (95%) public sector organisations do have some form of digital transformation strategy (DX).

The extent to which the DX strategy is rolled out differs a lot by country and subvertical.

The HR dept are driving some of the confidence in an effective back office transformation,
as are the central government subsector.

For those who haven’t fully rolled out their DX strategy, they estimate this will be complete within

2-3 years across the board.

There are relatively low levels of adoption of different technologies that improve back office systems, but high levels of exploration – the intent is there even if implementation hasn’t happened yet.

Canadian and Australian organisations are having a big push of updating legacy systems,

whereas the UK organisations are most likely to have adopted data management tools. Relative to the other countries, there is lower levels of adoption for Belgium and Sweden.

Emergency services are the most likely
subsector to have migrated to cloud, and to be
utilising real-time reporting tools.

NDPBs are the least likely to have adopted the below technologies across the board.

Interestingly, looking at the increase in usage of new technology (slightly) more IT decision makers report the adoption of AI/machine learning tools, than the integration of SaaS applications.

99% of those using or exploring SaaS applications report experiencing challenges doing so.

Most are confident in their organisation’s ability to transform back office systems effectively.

The confidence in completing transformation initiatives on time, to budget and with the right level of interoperability is heavily influenced by seniority.

For those who have little or no confidence in their organisation’s ability to transform effectively, the most common reason is a lack of internal alignment.

However they do it and however confident they are in it, respondents agree that changes to the back office systems over the past three years has made their lives easier.
