Cloud Migration Returns $3.86 for Every Dollar Spent

For this study, Nucleus interviewed ERP cloud migration customers both from Unit4 and its competitors.

Nucleus found that the benefit to cost ratio of cloud migrations has increased by 12.5 percent since 2021. Examining various trends impacting the total cost of ownership of both cloud and on-premises deployments, they estimate that the benefit to cost ratio of cloud migrations has increased from $3.43 to $3.86 for every dollar spent.

Increased on-premises costs and discounted migration services outweigh the increased cloud subscription and infrastructure costs, and this growing disparity shows no signs of slowing.

Nucleus anticipates the Business to Cost Ratio (BCR) of cloud migrations to increase by 10 percent over the next following two years.

The elimination of cost areas associated with an on-premises operation is the largest benefit area, representing 78 percent of a cloud migration’s ROI. Besides reducing total IT spend, The average BCR of cloud migrations increased by 13% over the past 2 years.

Migrating to the cloud returns several other benefits, including increased user productivity, reduced downtime, improved data accessibility, enhanced security and compliance, and access to the latest functionality through automated patches and upgrades.

Unit4’s X4U 2023 Conference: Cloud ERP(x) it Is!

Unit4 held its first X4U conference in several years in 2023, and with it came some noteworthy revelations. Leading the conference's news was the vendor's unveiling of its cloud-based ERPx software, and this article from TEC analyst Predrag (PJ) Jakovljevic details what Unit4 has planned for both its latest solution and its existing ERP customers over the near future.

Unit4 believes any cloud migration benefits will outweigh the true cost of doing nothing. […] This “rip the Band-Aid off” approach is a gutsy and risky move by Unit4 that will consternate some customers. But, if done properly, it might be smart in the long run, allowing both Unit4 and its customers to spare themselves the burden of legacy technologies.

With the product’s (ERPx) extensibility, companies can rely on the possibility for the platform to grow as they do, since it can adapt to the organization's needs over time.
